Having seen Mishima trying to help the victim, Phoenix and Maya both realized that could not possibly be the case. The pair learned that Yuuki had been hospitalized, and they pursued this lead to the nearby General Hospital.

	After learning the identity of the victim, it was revealed to Phoenix that Yuuki was being considered the suspect in the killing.  It was ultimately a young Miles Edgeworth who stood up for Phoenix during this trial to prove him innocent. Another student, Larry Butz, also vouched for Phoenix. This began a lifelong and complex friendship between the three of them.
